The Episcopal Church

Picture
The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, which is made up of more than 80 million members in 44 regional and national member churches in more than 160 countries.

The basic beliefs of the Episcopal Church are expressed in the
Book of Common Prayer, and especially in the Catechism (page 845).  The Church's sacramental life is centered around the use of the Book of Common Prayer.

The Episcopal Church website provides comprehensive details of our core beliefs and doctrines. To find out more about being an Episcopalian please also see I am an Episcopalian page.

The Five Marks of Mission

The Five Marks of Mission guide the entire Episcopal Church USA in all that we do in our ministries.

The Mission of the Church Is the Mission of Christ:

To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
To teach, baptize and nurture new believers
To respond to human need by loving service
To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and to pursue peace and reconciliation
To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

We recognize with gratitude that the Five Marks of Mission, developed by the Anglican Consultative Council between 1984 and 1990, have won wide acceptance among Anglicans, and have given parishes and dioceses around the world a practical and memorable "checklist" for mission activities."  Source:  http://www.episcopalchurch.org/page/five-marks-mission
